500 Handmade Books is now available! I submitted my book Plans d’Aix and was included alongside all sorts of amazing famous book people. Unfortunately you can only see the cover of my book but still that’s pretty good, I think! If only I had been making my lens books back then….

ginger beer

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

i got some ginger at the store the other day and decided to finally try making ginger beer- it’s so easy and it turned out better than most of the brands i’ve bought, if not quite as carbonated.

i found the recipe here: Homemade Ginger Ale

it takes 1 2-liter plastic bottle, sugar, yeast, ginger and lemon juice. i put 1 cup of sugar and 1/4 t of yeast in the bottle, grated a few inches of ginger root, added the ginger and the juice from a lemon to the bottle, and filled it with water. the recipe said that the bottle should get hard within 24-48 hours from the fermentation- but mine was hard by the evening, since it’s about a million degrees in my apartment. (apparently the bottle can explode if it ferments too long!)

so today we opened it and it’s amazing! and thanks to gabe we know that mixing it with beer is quite tasty too.
